Accommodation overview: From the minute visitors cross the causeway it is obvious that a stay on Osea Island is something really unique, making it ideal for family celebrations, a get together with friends or a relaxing holiday in peaceful surroundings. The services of a chef can also be arranged to make light of the cooking chores. The Manor House, standing detached, was built around 1900 in the style of a grand Edwardian seaside residence. It is set 25ft above sea level with breathtaking views along the beach and across the estuary.
The interior has been sympathetically restored capturing the charm of the period, with the addition of some modern features. All bedrooms have been designed with great style for maximum comfort, featuring four poster and antique beds with Egyptian cotton bed linen, 42 plasma screen TV/DVD, with bathrooms furnished in classic Edwardian style throughout. Soak up the atmosphere looking out to sea in front of an open fire in the drawing room, or enjoy a celebration meal in the dining room where the dining table is also a full-size billiard table. The Manor House has its own salt water swimming pool and there is also a second outdoor heated pool in the village.
Osea Island has a rich and diverse history, mentioned in the Domesday book, The causeway was built by the Romans, later the island was owned by many powerful and titled families. In 1903 Osea was purchased and developed by brewery owner and philanthropist Frederick Charrington. Osea is now a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of its unique ecology, rare plants, birds and marine life. The district has become the centre for classic sailing boats, such as the Blackwater Barges taking part in the Osea Islands Regatta. Guests should be aware that arrival and departure from the island is dependant on tide times. Shops and pubs 4 miles.

The well-furnished accommodation imparts a feeling of an old country house and the beautiful country garden offers a grass tennis court, croquet lawn, stables and horses. Completely secluded and rural, it provides the perfect backdrop for a quiet family holiday or a celebration gathering.
Just 15 minutes from Chelmsford and the M25, 10 minutes from Billericay, 5 minutes from the A12 and 30 miles from Trafalgar Square and the heart of London, this makes a good base from which to explore the surrounding areas. The old town of Maldon lies on the ridge above the Blackwater and has a strong nautical theme, and here, carefully restored 19th-century Thames sailing barges can often be seen at their moorings. The riverside promanade overlooks a shingle beach offering delightful views of the town. Sailing-barge races are held here from July, August and September, and cruises are available from March to October.
Marsh Farm Country Park in South Woodham Ferrers occupies 320 acres of low-lying reclaimed marshland. Visitors can tour the farm, which specialises in cattle, sheep and pigs and shows how a modern farm works. With many traditional Essex farm buildings, over 3 miles of riverside walks and a nature conservation zone, where migrant birds such as Brent geese can be seen in Winter, this is a wonderful day out for the family. Colchester is nearby and offers many interesting attractions to visit such as the town’s honey-coloured castle and museum, open-air market, Tymperleys Clock Museum and Hollytrees Museum. There are many pretty villages to visit such as The Hanningfields, Danbury, the Ongars and the Baddows to name but a few, and they all offer a range of excellent public houses and restaurants. Other attractive towns on the Crouch are Burnham, Wallasea, Paglesham and on the Blackwater are Heybridge and the Merseas. The picturesque villages of Higham, Stratford St Mary, Dedham and Flatford are all within an hour’s drive. Shops 1½ miles.

Nearby Colchester, famous for being the oldest town in England, has a castle and museum set in attractive parkland that stretches down to the River Colne, a zoo and an interesting range of shops, restaurants, galleries and pubs. Colchester also has a rail link to London which takes 50 minutes, so visitors can enjoy a day in the busy capital city and then return to the peace and tranquillity of Farthings. For a day by the sea, guests can choose between the sunshine coast of Essex at Frinton-on-Sea, Walton-on-the-Naze and Clacton or the Heritage coastline of nearby Suffolk where the beaches at Felixstowe, Aldeburgh, Southwold or Walberswick can be enjoyed.
