The surrounding area is a haven for wonderful cycling, walking and horse riding. Nearby, Ringwood is a bustling market town, with a number of handsome Georgian buildings lining its high street; the oldest part of the town lies by the peacefully flowing Hampshire Avon. From Bolderwood, three waymarked paths offer walkers some of the New Forest’s most beautiful scenery, with one walk taking in around 40 different species of trees. For nature lovers, Deer Meadow provides much useful information on the various types of deer that can be found, including red, roe, sika, fallow and muntjac, and the timid creatures can be observed from a platform there.
Bournemouth, with its clean sandy beaches, parks and gardens lies 15 miles distant, whilst Highcliffe and Friars Cliff beaches and fantastic sailing at Mudeford are all within 8 miles. Lymington is easily accessible and trips to the Isle of Wight can be taken. Lymington itself is a pretty busy seaside town with an attractive harbour, cobbled streets and Georgian houses. Further afield but well worth a trip is Monkey World and the Tank Museum near Wool. Various beaches are dotted along the coast and are a short drive away. The county of Hampshire itself was enjoyed by Jane Austen with her house and museum in Chawton and her resting place in Winchester Cathedral.
