The Oast is surrounded by National Trust properties, including Small Hythe Place (the home of the enchanting actress Ellen Terry), Scotney Castle and the stunning grounds and garden of Sissinghurst Castle. Pashney Manor Gardens is the winner of the HHA/Christie’s Garden of the Year award and offers an open air opera in the summer months. There are further attractions at Leeds and Bodiam Castles.
A trip to Rye is well worth a visit and is one of the most popular destinations within the area, with its half-timbered houses and the country’s oldest functioning pendulum clock - found in the heart of the town. An interesting day trip leads to Battle, the site for the most famous land battle in British history. Battle Abbey dominates the town and offers audio-visual tours on the battle itself. A ten-minute drive from Battle leads to Hastings, a popular seaside resort with many attractions that are sure to keep everyone entertained and amused. Camber Sands beach is also only 10 minutes away. Shop and pub 1 mile.
