Accommodation overview: Owned by the Her Majesty the Queen who visited in 2010, these former farm buildings and cottages have been transformed and are in an ideal holiday location from which to explore both the North York Moors National Park and the glorious Heritage Coast of Yorkshire.

Scalby Lodge Farm sits in an idyllic location on the edge of the elegant seaside town of Scarborough, with direct access to the Cleveland Way and affording stunning views towards the 12th-century castle ruins and across the coastline towards Bempton Cliffs RSPB Bird Sanctuary. Bird watchers should note that there is direct access to Scalby Pond and RSPB Bird Sanctuary boasting a private hide which guests are welcome to use. Scarborough is known as the first seaside resort and has been welcoming guests for more than 300 years. It boasts two beautiful beaches, with the North Bay being popular with surfers and the South Bay perfect for a fun-filled family day at the seaside. The town centre is home to an eclectic mix of shops, a wide choice of restaurants and its very own theatre where plays by the famous Alan Ayckbourn can be enjoyed. A stroll along the esplanade, featured in the TV series The Royal and Heartbeat, is a delight with far reaching views towards the castle and across the bays. Other places to visit include the 12th-century castle, Peasholm Park, the Sea Life Centre and an open air theatre.
To the south are Filey, Bridlington and many historic homes, halls and castles with Burton Agnes Hall housing a large collection of Renoir and Monet art, and Sewerby Hall and Gardens well worth a visit. To the north is the historic port of Whitby, renowned for its connections with Captain James Cook. The town is home to the stunning abbey which overlooks the colourful harbour and marina, and is the departure point for steam rides across the dramatic moors aboard the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Smugglers coves include Robin Hood’s Bay, Runswick Bay and Staithes where tumbling cottages cling to the cliff edges. Further inland are the North York Moors, known as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where quaint little villages tucked away deep in the valleys await discovery. Visit the daffodil fields of Farndale in springtime, a truly magnificent sight to behold.
Dalby Forest is home to the world mountain bike events and offers cycle hire with tracks to suit all ages, picnic areas with barbecues, the ever popular Go Ape, a visitor centre with children’s play areas and a very popular café with terraced eating areas - an ideal place to recharge your batteries. Alternatively, take a day out to Flamingoland Theme Park and Zoo. The market towns of Malton, Kirkby Moorside and Pickering host weekly markets and are easily accessible. A little further afield, discover the minster city of York, 40 miles, with art galleries, museums and theatres in abundance and the glorious York Minster itself. There are a number of pretty villages dotted along this route including Lealholm, where the children can play in the stream and is perfect for a picnic and a paddle or a meal at the pub, The Board Inn.  If you want to travel slightly further the delightful coastal resorts of Runswick Bay, Staithes and Sandsend are an ideal place to enjoy the seaside with some lovely golden sandy beaches, traditional inns and tearooms.  The historic town of Whitby is only 12 miles away and is a must to sample its famous, delicious fish and chips. The Esk Valley train that stops off at Danby is an ideal way to observe and enjoy all the beautiful villages on the North York Moors.
