Accommodation overview: High on a hill in 500 acres of farmland grounds, this spacious holiday cottage occupies a truly unique position, with superb panoramic views and its own garden and patio. Rebuilt with the mellow stone of the 300-year-old barn which once stood here, it has been furnished and equipped to a very high standard throughout. Visitors are welcome to walk along the many footpaths within the grounds.
Hollywall’s private and peaceful rural setting is equidistant from Ludlow and Worcester (15 miles), both steeped in history and crammed with ancient buildings. Ludlow is a delightful town, with beautifully preserved medieval buildings, fine 18th-century architecture, and a splendid Norman castle set high on a hill. There is an excellent choice of shops, including many antique shops, and eating places. Worcester is best known for its beautiful cathedral, and its Royal Worcester porcelain factory, open to the public. Closer to home, the old market town of Tenbury Wells (4½ miles) offers shops, inns and restaurants, as well as tennis and swimming. To the west, the Burford House Gardens display many unusual shrubs and roses, as well as the National Clematis Collection.
The Welsh borders, the Malvern Hills and the Wyre Forest are within easy reach, and Cheltenham, Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon are only an hour’s drive. Cheltenham offers entertainments of international repute, including theatre, music, dance and comedy, as well as a superb racecourse, while historic Warwick boasts England’s finest medieval castle. Stratford is alive with culture and history, boasting five houses associated with Shakespeare, as well as the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The Severn Valley Railway and Bewdley Safari Park offer further interesting day trips. Fishing locally. Excellent golf facilities 2 miles. Mountain bike hire 10 miles. Accommodation overview: Nestling in the beautiful rolling Worcestershire countryside, Abbots Court Cottages offer a wonderful base to explore the surrounding countryside. Abbots Court Cottages are situated in undulating countryside next to a working dairy farm. There are numerous local walks through woodland and pasturelands, offering superb views of Malvern Hills, Bredon Hill and the Cotswolds. Golf is available - there are two golf courses within three miles. There is fishing in the nearby trout lakes in Church Lench and in the River Avon in Evesham. Horse riding is also available locally. Within easy drive of Stratford-upon-Avon, Malvern, Worcester, Warwick, Cheltenham and the many pretty Cotswold villages. The area is very fortunate to be the home of many National Trust properties - Hidcote Manor Garden, Showshill Manor, Coughton Court, Brockhampton Estate, Charlecote Park, Croome Park, Hanbury Hall, Middle Little Tithe Barn and The Fleece Inn at Bretforton. There are also a number of English Heritage properties including Whitley Court. The Malvern Spring Flower show has become a major attraction over recent years as well as The Three Counties Agricultural Show and the Autumn Show. For those who enjoy gardening, there are many local nurseries, garden centres and gardens to visit in the NGS yellow book. The local area boasts excellent pubs, many of which serve good meals using locally sourced ingredients. The owners have a wealth of information to help guests enjoy their holiday. Seven out of the ten holiday cottages have been tastefully converted from old farm buildings dating back to the 1860s and The Old Court House is a much earlier timber framed barn. The other three, although new additions, have been sympathetically designed to sit comfortably alongside the older cottages. The cottages sleep from two to six people plus a cot. Set in glorious countryside with outstanding views towards the Cotswold Hills and Vale of Evesham, Cottons Farm enjoys a truly peaceful setting at the end of a long tree-lined drive, 300 metres from the road. It is just ½ mile from the pretty, unspoilt village of Dumbleton, easily accessible by road or footpath, and 5 miles from Broadway, the ever-popular ‘capital’ of the Cotswolds. The holiday cottages are surrounded by 58 acres of working farmland, with ridge and furrow rolling down to the River Isbourne, which lies 150 metres away from the cottages (toddlers beware!). Visitors are welcome to walk in the fields surrounding the farm and many public footpaths run nearby. Very tastefully converted from 150-year old farm buildings (including cart-shed, stable and dairy), these comfortable cottages are well equipped and furnished to a high standard. Cool in summer, warm and welcoming in winter, they are all centrally heated and well insulated. Set near the owners’ home, yet retaining complete privacy, each cottage has its own individual character with many original features, and enjoys its own area of garden and patio. A perfect place to relax, they are ideally situated for walking and touring the Cotswolds. Broadway with its old stone houses and fascinating shops also boasts Broadway Tower, now the centre of a country park and home to an observatory and exhibition. The market town of Evesham (5 miles) has tree-lined streets and pretty walks along the River Avon. Only a few minutes’ drive, on the edge of the Cotswold hills, is Toddington, where visitors can board a train on the Gloucestershire–Warwickshire Great Western Railway (mid March - mid October) and enjoy a ride through picturesque villages. In nearby Winchcombe there’s Sudeley Castle, while the Cotswolds Farm Park (with its rare breeds of animals) and the bird sanctuary at Bourton-on-the-Water are easily reached, as are Stanway House, Hidcote Garden, Snowshill Manor and Cheltenham. Stratford-upon-Avon and the cathedral city of Worcester are within an hour’s drive. The neighbouring villages boast traditional pubs and many excellent restaurants.
