Park Barn is tucked away on the edge of the historic market town of Holt, with a good selection of shops, cafés, pubs, restaurants and weekly markets. Holt Lowes is within a few minutes’ drive or 30 minutes’ walk away and has been recognised as an outstanding site for wildlife. It is designated as an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and as an SAC (Special Area of Conservation). Holt Country Park, covering more than 200 acres of woodland and heathland is a similar distance away. It is made up of woodland dominated with Scots pine and native broadleaves and is home to abundant wildlife goldcrests, greater spotted woodpeckers, emperor dragonflies and deer. Excellent walking and cycling can be enjoyed from the doorstep and the property is ideally placed for bird watching with RSPB nature and bird reserves and North Norfolk coastline within 5 miles. The North Norfolk Coastal Path runs along the coastline, offering excellent walking and rambling opportunities.
There are many stately homes in the area which merit a visit. These include Holkham Hall (an 18th-century country house located adjacent to the village of Holkham, constructed in the Palladian style) and Houghton Hall (residence of Great Britain’s first Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole with magnificent interiors). There are also NT properties Blickling Hall and Felbrigg Hall as well as Sheringham Park, Walsingham Shrine and Priory ruins which offer interesting day trips. A half hour’s drive away is the city of Norwich with excellent shopping, restaurants, cathedral, castle, theatre, cinema, pubs, cafés and weekly markets and the famous Norfolk Broads. The Queen’s country residence of Sandringham is open to the public (unless a member of the Royal family is in residence) and is just 11 miles away. The market towns of Fakenham and East Dereham are close by and well worth a visit. Excellent trout and coarse fishing nearby.
