Accommodation overview: Nestling in the peaceful surroundings of Glenbuchat in the Eastern foothills of the Cairngorm National Park are Kirkton Steading and Kirkton Cottage. On either side of Glenbuchat are the quiet villages of Strathdon and Glenkindie. Strathdon offers a shop and a post office, while Glenkindie has a petrol station, which houses a shop and post office and a hotel which serves excellent food. There are a great number of outdoor pursuits to be enjoyed including salmon and sea trout fishing in the river Dee and river Don (permits available locally), cycling on the miles of cycle path, horse riding through spectacular scenery and golfing on a choice of courses. Walkers are well catered for, whether you would like a leisurely stroll on forest trails or take on the challenge of some of Scotland's highest mountains (Munro's) you won't be disappointed. Some of the finest skiing Scotland has to offer is only 12 miles away at the Lecht and with Glenshee, Scotland's largest ski centre, only 44 miles away; skiers will find this the ideal base. The Castle and whisky trails are within easy reach and give a good opportunity to take in some history, at the many famous castles including Balmoral, and have a taste of the good stuff whilst taking a tour at one of the excellent distilleries! The Lonach Gathering and Highland Games are a must on the local calendar, held on the fourth Saturday in August, the highland hospitality and games will make it a day to remember. The market town of Alford will prove an interesting choice for the motor enthusiast with the Heritage Centre, Grampian Transport Museum and Alford Valley Railway - a narrow gauge railway. Aberdeen with its bright lights is just 43 miles away, with an excellent selection of fine restaurants, shops and galleries making it well worth a visit. Kirkton Cottage is a warm and comfortable cottage with wood lined lounge and large farmhouse kitchen offering idyllic accommodation for a relaxing break or a welcome return from a long day in the countryside.

Accommodation overview: Set in stunning open countryside close to the pretty coastal village of Catterline, Brewlaw Cottage offers comfortable and well presented single storey holiday accommodation. The patio area takes advantage of the surrounding countryside, with views towards the sea in the distance. Catterline, well known locally for the Creel Inn and its excellent seafood, is only 1 mile away. Stonehaven has lots to offer 6 miles away, with a good selection of shops, an open air swimming pool and a very picturesque harbour, where you can sample some real ale! Just outside Stonehaven is Dunnottar Castle; this dramatic ruin is steeped in history. As you wander around the extensive buildings you are almost surrounded by sea with the cliffs below. The north east coastal trail runs for 165 miles, where you will find many interesting villages, fine sandy beaches and coves all waiting to be explored, you may even be lucky enough to spot bottle nose dolphins, seals, osprey or puffins. Nature lovers will feel very at home here with Fowlsheugh RSPB reserve being only a few miles away - the spectacular cliffs are packed with 130,000 seabirds, including razorbills, puffin and guillemot. Montrose Basin nature reserve is just 20 miles south, the centre provides superb views across the tidal basin, which inhabits seals, herons, eider and waders. Osprey can be seen in the summer and pink-foot geese in the winter. 20 miles to the north is Aberdeen, with its stunning granite architecture. Aberdeen has much to offer with a good selection of shops, restaurants and attractions. For the more adventurous there are lots of opportunities locally for walking and cycling and a number of golf courses the closest being the challenging course at Stonehaven with stunning cliff top views. Accommodation overview: Harbour View is a sea view apartment in the idyllic and picturesque fishing village of Gardenstown. Occupying an elevated position above the pretty harbour the accommodation is on three levels, maximising the breathtaking views across Gamrie Bay. The property has been renovated to an exceptionally high standard. The bright open plan living area with large windows overlooking the harbour and sea beyond is a real feature of the property. A beautiful bathroom with deep Jacuzzi bath and three lovely bedrooms on the various levels complete the picture. Outside there is large decking area built into the hillside. A wonderful place to eat, drink and savour the incredible views and amazing sunsets across the bay below. Gardenstown oozes charm and tranquillity. The small winding streets, picturesque harbour and old stone fisherman's cottages seem untouched by time. It truly is the quintessential fishing village. The spectacular views, headland and bays have been the setting for a number of television programmes, including The Baron, and the village has become a haven for artists. Sandy beaches and rocky coves make it an ideal location for all ages. Dolphins and seals are regular visitors and the area is renowned for its wealth of sea birds and even the occasional whale has been spotted close to shore! Fishing for mackerel is particularly recommended, either off the pier or by local fishing boat, which can be arranged by the owner. Accommodation overview: La Fortuna is a new detached wooden lodge situated on the edge of the historic town of Stirling. The lodge interior has been beautifully furnished, co-ordinated and is well appointed. The lounge / dining area is light and airy with French doors leading out onto a lovely covered balcony area at the front, which has outdoor seating to relax and enjoy the view. The kitchen is fully fitted and well equipped. Downstairs there is a king sized bedroom next to the large, spacious family bathroom. Upstairs there are a further two bedrooms and a shower room. The main entrance is ramped and all ground floor rooms have wide door openings and light switches at waist height. There is free use of the on-site Hot Tub, which is housed in its own log cabin. It also has a great shopping centre and leisure facilities, multi screen cinema and many and varied eateries. The Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park is only a short drive away. Accommodation overview: Seacrest is an attractive apartment that forms part of a converted old stone granary. Set in the heart of the traditional fishing village of Whitehills, with its quaint harbour, lovely yachting marina and superb coastal walks, it is ideally placed for exploring this beautiful and dramatic coastline. The village also has a good local pub, restaurant, small supermarket and an exceptional fish shop with associated processing facility, where an incredible array of locally caught sea food is available daily. The Moray Firth is well known for its mild climate, wide sweeping sandy beaches interspersed with rocky outcrops and coves and pretty, unspoilt fishing villages. It is also renowned for its wild life. Bottle nosed dolphins, seals, numerous sea birds and even the occasional whale frequent the shore line. There is a wealth of activities in the area. Golf, fishing, sailing, canoeing, horse riding, bird watching and cliff top walking are all regular pastimes. A little way along the coast is the welcoming town of Macduff with its attractive harbour and marine aquarium, Britain's deepest aquarium tank displaying sea creatures from the Moray Firth - popular with visitors of all ages. Both the Whisky and Castle trails are also easily accessible. One of the best ways to explore the myriad of pretty fishing villages is by local bus.
