The area surrounding the attractive little nearby town of Llanidloes (6 miles with its arts centre and regular markets) is wonderful mountain biking hill walking and bird watching country - Red Kites abound and visitors can enjoy the spectacular daily display at the Red Kite feeding station in Rhayader (9 miles). Nearby the 'book town' of Hay-on-Wye famously plays host to an international literary festival in May and the many events held at the Royal Welsh Showground are only 20 miles distant whilst Rhayader is also home to the Welsh Royal Crystal factory a pottery and a regular livestock market. For some serious fishing picnics and mountain biking the beautiful Elan Valley with its stunningly lovely reservoirs is the area's main attraction and fishing enthusiasts are also well served on the River Wye. Pony trekking and golf are enjoyed nearby there is a sports centre in Llanidloes cycle hire is available in Rhayader and farmland on the fringes of Llanwrtyd Wells is the setting for the infamous World Bog Snorkelling Championships. Attractions as diverse as Mynach Falls Llywernog Silver Lead Mine and the delightful spa town of Llandrindod Wells are all within a short drive and the area's numerous restaurants and country pubs offer excellent dining. Llangurig (1 mile) offers a shop/post office and two inns serving food.
