Accommodation overview: Peacefully set with panoramic views over countryside to the Nith Estuary, these three detached, single-storey holiday cottages each have their own garden and have been furnished and equipped to the STB’s ‘4 Star’ standard. Conheath Gatelodge is a traditional Georgian cottage with many original features, whilst Janward is spacious and modern. Martha’s Shore Cottage was an original fisherman’s cottage dating back to 1700 - many generations of Martha’s artistic family lived here and her father was the stone mason for the farm estate, and cut stone for the owner’s own farmhouse. There are lovely riverside walks from the doorstep with abundant birds and other wildlife to spot. There are many quiet roads ideal for cycling, and excellent wildfowl salt-marshes surrounding Caerlaverock Castle, 3 miles away. Solway Firth, with its Robert Burns connections, is easily accessible. Dumfries, 3 miles, also with Burns attractions, has good shopping, restaurants, cinema and many sports facilities. Sandy beaches, quaint fishing villages, castles and nature reserves all within easy reach. Shop/P.O. and good village pub ½ mile. Set next to the owner’s 500-acre working farm. Spacious living room with open fire and radiant fire. Dining room. Well-equipped fitted kitchen with breakfast area. Double bedroom (5ft bed) with en-suite shower room and toilet. Two twin bedrooms. Accommodation overview: As its name portrays, the Gardener’s Cottage was once the home of the head gardener to this historic estate, and lies adjacent to the walled garden. One picture view through the cottage window is of the Palnure Burn; while through another, down the path, red squirrels can often be seen feeding. Gentle walks can be taken in the grounds and locally, or a more challenging ramble to the top of Cairnsmore. A good location for bird spotting. Golf and horse riding nearby. Cycle hire locally and the Forest Park Visitor Centre in the glen has a programme of activities throughout the season. Shops 4 miles. Two steps to entrance/boot room. Living/dining room with wood-burning stove and sofa-bed. Well-fitted kitchen with tiled floor. Double bedroom. Twin bedroom (zip & link beds). Bathroom with double shower cubicle and toilet.
