The flexible accommodation at Acton Scott can be taken together by larger parties so that 36 people can stay for family gatherings and weddings etc. Thirty minutes’ drive to the north, near Shrewsbury, is Cronkhill Farmhouse, sleeping 14, which is also managed by the Acton Scott estate. This large and finely restored period property is situated within extensive and picturesque parkland and provides every modern day comfort and style.

Dating back to the 16th century, Henley Farmhouse occupies an idyllic position affording uninterrupted views from south-facing lawns and patios, towards Wenlock Edge and Flanders Folly. Thoughtfully appointed and boasting a wealth of period features including beamed ceilings, oak floors and open fires, this is a desirable and spacious ten-bedroom character property.
Restored to an excellent standard, it provides large relaxing and entertaining space including dining for 20, two spacious living rooms and a separate children’s play area. Location: You will discover a piece of British history at Acton Scott, for it achieved national fame as the setting for BBC2’s hit TV series Victorian Farm, acknowledging the Acton family’s championing of sustainable practices. It has been followed by another Acton Scott-based BBC TV series Escape in Time, new for 2010 and presented by Ben Fogle.
Guests can enjoy a memorable setting and a multitude of activities on this lovingly preserved estate, including the Historic Working Farm - where the land is worked with heavy horses to preserve a way of life before the age of the tractor. This visitor attraction is a firm favourite with families. There’s the handy School House café (open April to October) and lovely guided walks and cycle rides.
The prettiest market towns and traditional country pubs are all close at hand, including Shrewsbury to the north, on the banks of the River Severn; and Ludlow, to the south, in its medieval castle setting. This is a food paradise with Michelin star restaurants and artisan shops galore. The spectacular Stretton Hills and Welsh Marches offer riding, cycling and walking. Among the many nearby sites are Attingham Park, the famous Ironbridge Gorge and its many museums, the castles of Powis and Stokesay and Wroxeter Roman city.
But if you simply cannot tear yourself away from Acton Scott, the finest local produce and home prepared meals can be delivered to your holiday house, with a la carte catering available to pre-book for special occasions.
Henley Farmhouse is one of three holiday houses at Acton Scott. The Shooting Lodge is a finely restored and spacious character property set in its own private grounds, sleeps 8+3, ref RNP. Henley Cottage, an authentic Victorian farm labourer’s cottage, as seen on TV, sleeps 4+1, ref ROO4. All three properties may be rented together or individually, to accommodate the needs of larger parties.

Accommodation overview: A wonderful discovery for families and friends, this detached property was originally two quarrymen’s cottages built in the early 19th century which have been very well extended and improved to provide spacious accommodation. Set within an Area of Natural Beauty, Wayfarers enjoys glorious views across rolling Herefordshire countryside to the Black Mountains of Wales. It lies within walking distance of the Worcestershire Beacon - the highest point of the Malvern Hills - and is the ideal starting point for the many walks which give panoramic views across the Severn Vale, as well as towards the west to Wales.
Wayfarers is perfectly located to explore the local attractions which include the Elgar route. The famous English composer lived in Malvern, and views from his house undoubtedly inspired him whilst writing his famous Enigma Variations. Eastnor Castle - a magnificent family home 2½ miles east of Ledbury - makes for an uplifting visit. It houses a fine collection of medieval armour, tapestries and paintings within its Gothic and Italianate interior. Set in a 5000-acre estate, it is surrounded by a deer Park, lake and arboretum. Great Malvern was renowned for its medicinal waters during Victorian time, and visitors can still try samples for themselves at St Anne’s Well. The Winter Gardens Pavilion is another attraction at Great Malvern - hosting the Almeida Drama Festival in August. The cathedral city of Worcester is approximately 8 miles away with its racecourse, riverbase, cinemas and shopping. Regency Cheltenham, Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon and the Cotswolds are within easy driving distance. There is a local shop less than a mile away, and supermarkets a 2-mile drive (½ mile on foot over the hills). Shop 1 mile, quiet, local pub just 200 yards.

Underwood cottage is situated on the Blossom Trail. Underwood Cottage is an ideal touring base within easy driving distance of the Malverns, Cotswolds, Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford, Warwick and the Welsh borders. Evesham, (5 miles), retains the atmosphere of a busy market town on the banks of the River Avon, and is very popular with anglers. The Vale of Evesham has rivers, canals, pools and lakes galore; with much of the River Avon suitable for dinghy sailing, boat trips and canoeing. Evesham was once popular with pilgrims, as Simon de Montfort was buried beneath its abbey. The town also has good shopping and many interesting buildings. Pilgrims in search of the true English countryside need look no further than the Cotswolds, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful areas in England. Several Cotswold villages, such as Bibury and Bourton-on-the-Water (both less than an hour’s drive), are famous as the quintessence of the English rural scene. Cheltenham (22 miles) is a spa town with elegant Regency architecture, tree-lined avenues, excellent shops and the home of National Hunt horse racing just north of town. Water sports, golf, riding and tennis available locally. Shops 3 miles, village pubs serving food 2 miles.
