Accommodation overview: Cark in Cartmel, at the southern tip of the Lake District and close to the shores of Morcambe Bay is today a charming, quiet village just a mile from Cartmel itself, home to the famous racecourse and priory. But Cark wasnt always so peaceful as it was once, in the 18th and 19th centuries, a bustling centre for the nearby mills and associated industries. Today the village has many a delightful walk around white washed cottages and leafy lanes, Holker Hall and gardens - the neo Elizabethan mansion and home of Lord and Lady Cavendish, 2 pubs, a village shop and a post office - in fact, there are 9 excellent pubs (and a Michelin starred restaurant) within a 3 mile radius, sufficient scope for quenching even the biggest of thirsts.

Accommodation overview: Causeway Cottage sits in a short terrace next door to The Pig and Whistle, a traditional country pub and right in the heart of Cartmel. A level walk round the corner in to the village square brings you to a further selection of traditional pubs, some wonderful, award winning restaurants and of course, the famous sticky toffee pudding shop, The famous Cartmel Racecourse which holds several meetings throughout the year is only half a mile out of the village, quite a sight on race day and well worth a visit. Accommodation overview: Set in open countryside with walks from the door, Broughton Lodge Cottage has a very quiet and extremely peaceful situation, except for perhaps the odd duck quacking from the nearby stream! The drive down the narrow country lanes to the cottage through sheep dotted, quintessentially Lakeland, fields makes it hard to imagine youve just left the M6 a few minutes earlier. The medieval village of Cartmel with its good traditional pubs serving local ales and homemade food, as well as the renowned LEnclume restaurant for special occasions, is within easy walking distance (about a mile) and is experiencing increased popularity in the off season as well as during the famous race meeting weeks.
