It serves as an ideal base for exploring the central Lakes with Grizedale Forest, Grasmere, Hawkshead and Ambleside all close by. Accommodation overview: Set in a magnificent elevated position backing onto woodland with open views towards Lake Windermere, this superb detached holiday home is just a half mile walk from the shore. Built in 2010, incorporating under-floor heating with ground source heat pump, a wood-burning stove, an en-suite to each bedroom and spacious living areas, it makes an excellent base to explore the Central Lake District. Forming part of the Graythwaite Estate, guests are free to roam the estate which has lake frontage; 1.5 miles away there is a 2.5 acre stocked lake, providing fly fishing (at cost), an indoor heated swimming pool, a fitness suite (at cost), dedicated children’s play area, table tennis and bike hire. Beautiful walks stretch in every direction from the door towards Grizedale, and near Sawrey where Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top Farm is located, the very cottage where she was inspired to create Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddleduck. At Hawkshead, 4 miles, there is a gallery dedicated to her original drawings. The ferry at Sawrey takes cars across Lake Windermere to Bowness where there are a multitude of restaurants, boutiques, galleries, water-sports of every description and cruisers for trips on the Lake. Graythwaite Hall itself has lovely gardens open from springtime to autumn and there are many other fascinating country houses, gardens and castles within a 10 mile drive, such as Holker Hall, Sizergh Castle and grounds, Levens Hall and gardens, Townend Hall and Holehire Gardens. Just north of Ambleside lies Grasmere with a beautiful smaller lake, also the cottage and museum of the famous poet who loved the Lake District so much and brought it to the attention of the world, William Wordsworth.
