Accommodation overview: West Mainland is the largest part of the largest island in Orkney and offers the visitor an unrivalled richness and diverse variety of attractions. The parish of Rendall lies on the north east side of West Mainland and at Tingwall, the harbour hosts a number of Orkney fishing boats as well as the ro-ro ferry to the islands of Rousay, Egilsay and Wyre. Mainland offers delightful villages dotted through farmland with spectacular cliff scenery along the Atlantic coastline, sheltered sandy bays and unrivalled hill and moorland vistas. Visitors will enjoy discovering the fascinating history - from the famous prehistoric village at Skara Brae through to the period of Norse and Viking rule, the Renaissance architecture of the early 17th century and right up to date. Orkney does not just offer historic interest however - the islanders lead a rich, full life and many recreational activities can be enjoyed including cycling, deep sea diving, golf, pony trekking, loch and sea fishing (excellent brown trout fishing lochs), sailing and boat hire. There are art, flower, drama and music Festivals held throughout the summer months and visitors are made very welcome. The islands are also abundant in wildlife, with many rare seabirds to be seen and wonderful wild flowers. No trip to Orkney is complete without exploring the smaller islands - each one has its own unique charm and character.
This delightful, detached single-storey extended croft cottage enjoys panoramic views and spectacular sunsets. The cottage is set in 2.5 acres of meadowed grounds - there is a decked patio with garden furniture to sit out and fully appreciate the tranquillity and spectacular surroundings. The light and sunny extension provides a large living/dining room and is reached from the main part of the cottage by a glazed link. The interior throughout is warm and very comfortably furnished. As all rooms are on one level the property may suit visitors with wheelchairs or walking difficulties. For larger groups, a separate bunkhouse is available at an extra charge comprising 2 bunk bedrooms and a shower room. Shops 1 mile, pub/hotel 2 miles.
1 master bedroom with king-size bed, 1 double and 1 twin bedroom, 1 single bed off hallway, living/dining room with wood-burning stove, kitchen, utility room with shower, conservatory, games room (pool table, darts), bathroom with separate shower unit, extra separate wc.
