Accommodation overview: Set within the beautiful Exmoor National Park, in a location that was once the seat of West Saxon kings (mentioned in Doomsday Book and older Saxon Chronicles), The Cleeve is an imposing and detached house which makes a wonderful holiday venue for larger groups. Decorated and equipped to a very high standard, the property has been carefully designed with families in mind, and whilst enjoying a secluded position that is not overlooked, it lies close to the village. Just a few minutes’ walk away are a selection of restaurants, pubs, shops, as well as tearooms and recreational facilities with areas for football, tennis and cricket, a bowling green and children’s play area. Directly leading from the house and its huge lawned area is a bridleway; while the garden path winds over a private bridge across the stream, where a pleasant stroll can be taken along the quiet country lane deeper into the spectacular surrounding countryside or through Porlock to the sea. Nature can be seen at its best within the miles of Exmoor National Park that surrounds the property and which is among the UK’s greatest Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Here it has been reported that wildlife lovers can observe 31 natural mammals (including majestic red deer and Exmoor ponies), 244 different species of birds visiting at different times of the year, as well as more than 100 nesting birds, over 1000 types of flowers or grass. Other leisure activities such as walking, cycling, riding, sailing, and hang gliding can all be catered for. Of interest, too, are the Quantocks and Brendon Hills, whilst Dartmoor can also be visited. Shops 250 yards. Accommodation overview: Set in a spectacular location, enjoying breathtaking moorland views from its superb hillside position, this attractive, stone faced, detached farmhouse dating back to the 17th-century has been renovated to a very high standard, offering spacious holiday accommodation. Located within one mile from the top of Exmoor, one mile from the coastline and just two miles from the pretty village of Porlock with its dramatic scenery, Holmbush makes a wonderful base from which to explore Exmoor National Park with its contrasting scenery. The property is surrounded with wonderful landscaped gardens and several lawns with mature trees and well-stocked borders, and also enjoys a sunken garden with an ornamental pond and further seating area. The village of Porlock is positioned in a deep hollow, cupped by the hills of Exmoor, and provides many shops and restaurants. Dripping with charm with its thatch-and-cob houses and long main street, the village prides itself on literary links to the Exmoor romance Lorna Doone. To the west of the village is Porlock Weir with its tiny harbour, a haven for yachts and fishing boats. Lynmouth, one of the most beautiful drives in the area can be explored, as well as Selworthy village with its many thatched cottages, or Dunster village, with its medieval castle (NT). Lynch Park Farm with its falcons is always a favourite with children and is nearby. There are numerous National Trust properties and gardens to visit nearby including Arlington Court, Woody Bay, Heddon Valley, Holnicote Estate and Selworthy, Damage Cliffs, Morte Point and Woolacombe. Accommodation overview: West Lynch, thatched and cosy, has been with the same family for three centuries and lies on the sunny side of the Porlock Valley. Inside, relaxation and comfort abound - it is beautifully furnished with lots of arts and crafts, many sitting areas, 50in and 32in TVs and with facilities such as Wii, games room and indoor pool table. Outside catering is available by an inspired professional chef by arrangement for that special occasion or treat. National Trust woodlands from the former Acland Estates are just beyond the house. These lead to the open moors - with large herds of red deer, Exmoor ponies, the buzzards on the wing and foxes in thir lairs - and dramatic headland of Hurlstone, looking west down to Devon and north to the Welsh coast. Also within walking distance are the romantic villages of Bossington, Selworthy, Allerford and bustling Porlock for year-round needs, as well as Minehead’s farmers’ market. There is surfing at Lynmouth or beyond to Croyde and Woolacombe, and golf at Minehead or the fine course at Saunton for a true test. Horse riding is available for all abilities and entertainment for both children and adults at Lynch Farm and Tropicaria further on. There are also glorious walks, of course, to hidden treasures such as Culbone Church, Butlins at Minehead or Dunster Castle if activities such as outdoor meals, table tennis, croquet and messing about with balls at West Lynch does not suffice. Local beaches are a short drive away, but Bossington beach is within walking distance, with its amazing pebble ridge. Enjoy a stay in this special corner of Exmoor. Accommodation overview: Watermill Cottage is surrounded by the hills of Exmoor National Park, situated within walking distance of one of the finest villages on Exmoor, with shops, restaurants and tea shops. Porlock Weir is just half a mile away with its quaint harbour and fantastic walks.
