Accommodation overview: High in the hamlet of Riber in the shadow of the castle just outside Matlock and surrounded by tranquil rolling countryside, The Barn is situated in the grounds of the privately-owned Riber Hall. This destination is offered for adults and children over twelve years old, from a 2-night stay, inclusive of a tennis court and beautiful garden with heated furnished terrace. There are ten en-suite bedrooms of 17 to 40 square metres, equipped with Sony LCD TVs, dining areas and micro kitchens with combination microwave oven, fridge, kettle/toaster and Wedgwood china. For days out there is plenty to do and see. In the neighbouring village of Holloway is the former home of Florence Nightingale whilst down in the Derwent Valley at Cromford, the World Heritage Site boasts the world’s first water-powered cotton-spinning factories, built by Sir Richard Arkwright and Jedediah Strutt. Just under four miles is the delightful town of Matlock Bath boasting smart riverside cafés and bars slotted in between more traditional pubs, restaurants, tea shops, ice-cream parlours and plenty of restaurants. Here visitors can also sample a ride to The Heights of Abraham by cable car and admire the views of ‘Little Switzerland’ as Byron once described this area. For the more inquisitive visit the Mining Museum for a fascinating look into the area’s past. Shop 2 miles, pub 11/2 miles.
