Overlooking the lake in the grounds of the Raithwaite Estate, this magnificent, large, detached house has views from all its rooms over the moorland and beautiful gardens which surround it. Lake House boasts an Aga, two wood-burning stoves, vaulted beamed ceilings and a balcony overlooking the lake, providing superb home-from-home holiday accommodation. It is set in over 80 acres of secluded grounds which include mature woodland walks, rare plants and an abundance of wildlife from deer to badgers, swans and heron, with streams, waterfalls and the resident alpacas grazing in the grassland. Enjoy spending a day trout fishing in the lake (at cost), enjoy golf (reduced green fees) or cycle amongst stunning scenery. For ultimate relaxation, the on-site spa includes four treatment rooms, a relaxation area, a fully equipped gymnasium, heated pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi (at cost). Experience fine dining in Raithwaite Hall or take the children to The Keep which caters for families.
An easy drive away is the quaint fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay, where coast or country walks, themed weekends and festivals, family friendly beaches and great restaurants can be enjoyed. Visit Staithes, once one of the largest fishing ports on the north east coast, where cottages cling to the cliffs. Whitby has narrow alleys and quaint streets leading to the busy quayside, dominated and almost protected by the abbey ruins, and hosts many festivals during the year such as the Folk Weekends, 60s Festival Regatta Week and Gothic weekends, when visitors take to the streets in stunning costumes, mingling with the locals. The town, steeped in history, has connections with Captain James Cook and Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Admire St Mary’s Church on the cliff top from which the famous 199 steps lead to the narrow ginnels at the heart of the town. Whitby boasts a 3-mile stretch of award-winning beaches, a clifftop golf course and an eclectic mix of shops, inns, tea rooms, restaurants, museums and art galleries. The North Yorkshire Moors steam train from Whitby chugs its way through the glorious Esk Valley into Goathland and Grosmont, an unforgettable journey.
