Places of interest in the area include the excavated foundations of Sawtry Abbey, the 17th century Manor Farm, the moated Grange Farm, and Abbey Farm which incorporates monastic stonework. Nature lovers will enjoy Monks Wood which was acquired by the Nature Conservancy in 1953 and comprises of 375-acre mixed woodland, mainly natural regeneration, notable for its rare plants and insects including the black hairstreak butterfly. The historic city of Cambridge is around 25 miles drive away and is famous for its university, its archictecture, museums, botanic gardens and art galleries; visitors can also try their hand at punting on the River Cam or enjoy a wealth of restaurants, pubs and theatres. Peterborough, just 14 miles drive to the north, offers many amenities, including its magnificent cathedral, shops, restaurants and bars as well as theatres, cinema and greyhound stadium.
