Accommodation overview: Situated in the little village of Skipton-on-Swale, between the traditional market town of Thirsk and the cathedral town of Ripon, this beautiful detached barn conversion makes the perfect retreat in which to stay at any time of the year. Set back from the main road, it offers warm and cosy accommodation and is furnished to a very high standard, boasting an internal as well as an external games room. It lies just 4 miles from the bustling market town of Thirsk (well known for its connections with famous vet and writer James Herriot) with its cobbled streets, market place, shops, inns and tearooms. A visit to the very poplular World of James Herriot is an absolute must. Nearby Ripon has a small cathedral and one of the most beautiful market places in England, and historic Fountains Abbey is just a little further away from this market town. The adventure theme park, Lightwater Valley, is close by.
Within easy reach are both the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors National Park - ideal locations to visit any time of the year, with small villages waiting to greet visitors. Riverside cafés, bars and the famous Mother Shipton’s Cave located in the pretty market town of Knaresborough, are all well worth a visit.
Nearby are the historic towns of Harrogate and York (23 miles), both perfect for a day’s shopping. The historic walled city of York offers its magnificant Minster, art galleries, theatres, museums including Castle Museum, Railway Museum and Jorvik Viking Centre and famous cobbled streets such as the Shambles and Stonegate. Two racecourses within a 5-mile radius.
