Accommodation overview: The Old Rectory is an impressive Grade II listed, detached holiday home. The house is spacious, swathed in wisteria and faces onto a large lawned front garden. It is set within its own extensive grounds including a gravelled driveway, a large level lawned garden to the front which abuts St John’s Leat, and a large duck pond with a central island. Many types of water birds live here including ducks and sometimes Canadian geese; there is also a small area of woodland behind the house. The friendly, helpful owners live in the small annexe to the side of the main house. This property provides a delightful character home ideally suited to a family holiday close to the South Cornwall Coast. All year round it is a great location for a special occasion such as a family gathering or a weekend. This striking house has many period features including multi-paned sash windows, high skirtings, numerous feature fireplaces, a grand staircase, large entrance vestibule, ceiling roses and moulded covings in most rooms. The high ceilings create a feeling of light and space, with rounded bay windows in the master bedroom and drawing room. The pretty village of St John nestles within a wooded valley, set amongst fields which lead to the creek edge. Very close to some of the south coast’s most spectacular scenery and lovely beaches popular with tourists in the summer. The village is bordered by St John’s Lake, which is known locally for its wildfowl and surrounding footpaths. The nearby South West Coastal Path passes above the spectacular beaches of the Rame Peninsula as it winds its way towards the picturesque villages of Kingsand and Cawsand, over Rame Head, and past the cliffs at Freathy towards the beaches and villages of Portwrinkle, Downderry, Seaton and Looe. Torpoint is an easy drive, with Plymouth located on the Devon side of the Tamar Estuary, accessed from Torpoint by a continual car ferry service. Shops and pubs 3 miles. Pub in village (temporarily closed). Entrance hall. Spacious living room with open fire, TV and bay windows with views to garden. Spacious, formal dining room with snooker table.
