The village has a good range of small shops cafes and pubs serving food and just 17 miles away lies the historic cathedral city of Durham whilst cosmopolitan Newcastle with its excellent shopping great architecture and lively nightlife is only 24 miles' drive. Built in 1726 and recently renovated to high standards it features a spacious farmhouse kitchen as well as exposed beams and original stone interior walls. Boasting its own enclosed garden it sits beside the owners' home on a working farm where visitors can explore the local footpaths and the surrounding glorious walking country whilst just 1 mile away is the delightful Dales village of Wolsingham with its cafes pubs and shops. Pony trekking is available in nearby Hamsterley Forest and a nostalgic steam train ride on the Weardale Railway offers an ideal way to enjoy the local landscape (in season). The historic city of Durham only 17 miles away is well worth visiting for its Norman castle magnificent cathedral and river boat trips whilst in happy contrast cosmopolitan Newcastle for excellent shopping and fascinating architecture is a 24 mile drive. Beamish Living History Museum Barnard Castle and Kilhope Lead Mining Centre are among the attractions close by and Hadrian's Wall with its Roman forts and spectacular views of the Northumberland moors is within an hour's drive.
