Berwick is England’s northernmost town, and was the scene of many battles as it changed hands 14 times as the English and Scots fought for the control of the Scottish/English borders. This little coastal town is a more peaceful place now and retains plenty of charm and character, with its picturesque narrow winding streets and impressive Elizabethan walls. Stroll along these walls and enjoy stunning views over the river estuary and coast, or explore the many amenities that the town has to offer including shops, supermarkets, pubs and restaurants, and a leisure centre. The Maltings Arts Centre is a cultural oasis that offers a range of events encompassing music, theatre and cinema. Fishing, golf and riding are also available nearby, and there are regular trains to the vibrant cities of Edinburgh and Newcastle.
